In the event of major storm damage, the Property Appraiser's office plays an important role in assessing and quantifying storm damage to buildings and other improvements in Hillsborough County. Residents should also be aware that storm damage to improvements may result in an adjustment in the value of their property for purposes of the 2017 tax roll, depending upon when the damage is repaired or any potential statutory relief granted by the Florida Legislature.
"Any time a property owner has a question about the value of their property, our office wants to be notified to ensure fairness and accuracy," Henriquez said. "What's most important is the safety of our citizens, and we want to help and serve them in any way we can."
Although Hurricane Matthew is not expected to make a direct strike on Hillsborough County, the HCPA staff is prepared to begin comprehensive damage assessment if necessary. The HCPA's Brandon office is a hurricane-hardened facility, where staff would relocate in the event of a major event.
Hillsborough County residents with any questions regarding the damage assessment process should contact the office by telephone at (813) 272-6100, or via the HCPA website at www.hcpafl.org A short video message from Bob Henriquez about reporting damage to property can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1eplQEmPgI&feature=youtu.be
