Advise of Property Owner’s Death

If you have recently suffered a loss, the Property Appraiser’s office extends our sincerest condolences. We want to ensure the process of updating property records is as seamless as possible during this difficult time. Keeping these records current ensures that tax notices and official documents are directed to the correct party.

Important Notice for Homestead Properties

It is critical to notify our office if the sole owner of a property with a homestead exemption has passed away.

  • •This benefit is non-transferable and belonged only to the deceased owner.
  • • New owners must take immediate action to update the status to avoid potential costly liens resulting from undeserved exemptions.

How to Update Property Information

  • Change of Address: You may update the mailing address here or visit our homepage and select "Change My Address" under the "I'd Like To..." section.
  • New Homestead Applications: If you are an heir and have made this property your permanent residence, you may be eligible to apply for your own homestead exemption and portability benefits to maintain lower tax rates. Contact us for more information.

Required Documentation

Please provide the following documents to our office as soon as practically possible:

  1. Death Certificate
  2. Probate Filings: Any documents related to the real property (if they exist), including:
    • • Orders Determining Homestead
    • • Personal Representative Deeds
    • • Dispositions of Property
